Why it matters
A code is a clue, not a diagnosis.
Reading a trouble code only tells you which system noticed a problem. A code for an oxygen sensor can be caused by a wiring fault, a vacuum leak or a failing module. Replacing parts by code alone often wastes money.
Comprehensive troubleshooting uses scan data, wiring diagrams, a multimeter and component tests to prove exactly what failed before anything is replaced.
Code reading
- Reads stored codes
- Names a system, not a part
- Often leads to guess-replacing parts
Full diagnosis
- Scans every module and live data
- Tests circuits and components
- Finds the actual cause
- Clear estimate before repair
Our process
Six-step diagnostic process.
- 01
Discuss the concern
When it happens, what you notice, and any recent work.
- 02
Initial assessment
Visual checks, battery and connection condition.
- 03
Retrieve diagnostic data
Full scan of all modules, codes, freeze-frame and live data.
- 04
Targeted electrical testing
Multimeter, wiring diagrams and component tests to prove the fault.
- 05
Explain the findings
What failed, why, and how we know.
- 06
Recommendations & estimate
Repair options and cost, approved by you before any work.
Electrical diagnostic fee
$150 all vehicles
Indicative rate; confirmed when you book. Some faults need additional testing time, which we always approve with you first.
Questions
Electrical FAQ
What does an electrical diagnostic include?
A full computer scan of the vehicle's modules, review of codes and live data, and targeted testing of the circuits and components involved, so we can explain the cause and give you a repair estimate.
Can you diagnose intermittent electrical faults?
Yes, we work on intermittent faults. They can take longer to find because the fault has to be present or reproduced during testing; we keep you informed before using extra diagnostic time.
Why not just read the code at a parts store?
A code tells you which system reported a problem, not which part failed. Testing finds the actual cause, so you don't pay for parts that don't fix it.
